A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING FRANK R. DAY UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM HIS 18-YEAR TENURE AS CHAIRMAN OF TRUSTMARK NATIONAL BANK.
WHEREAS, Frank R. Day retired Tuesday from his 18-year tenure as Chairman of Trustmark National Bank, closing out his active role in a four-decade career with the institution; and
WHEREAS, Day, 67, will remain at Trustmark as an advising director; and
WHEREAS, Day began his career with Trustmark in 1958 and guided the bank through a name change in 1985 from First National Bank to Trustmark National Bank, he led the acquisitions of 15 financial institutions, and helped to develop a total asset growth from about $1.3 Billion in 1981 to $6 Billion before stepping down as chief executive officer in 1997; and
WHEREAS, the direction he gave has been instrumental in the growth of the bank; and
WHEREAS, Trustmark and the State of Mississippi have benefitted from Day's leadership and generosity; through his Luckyday Foundation, Day has contributed thousands of dollars to non-profit organizations, universities and colleges; and
WHEREAS, last year, the Luckyday Foundation donated $350,000.00 to Ole Miss to set up a scholarship program to encourage students to pursue careers in education, which is just one example of his contributions; and
WHEREAS, Day has not limited his support of education to his alma mater: Tougaloo College will induct him into the Tougaloo College Society of Corporate Philanthropists at its annual business luncheon, a designation which is reserved for those who have donated $100,000.00 or more; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this outstanding leader and spokesman in the banking industry, whose civic and charitable contributions have made a major difference in the lives of many Mississippians:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Frank R. Day of Jackson, Mississippi, upon the occasion of his retirement from his 18-year tenure as Chairman of Trustmark National Bank, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature on his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Frank Day and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
